What is READ WELL?

Read Well is a systematic phonics program that provides multiple opportunities to develop oral language, vocabulary, and phonemic awareness.

Instruction includes:

  • letter/sound associations
  • blending (sounding out words)
  • word patterns
  • tricky words (irregular words)
  • duet stories (shared reading with rich content)
  • solo stories (student-read stories)

Lesson Format

Lessons begin with warm ups and are followed by a decoding practice (magazine) and a story reading.  Each day Read Well K students hear sounds, say sounds, and read sounds.  At the end of each unit, K students may bring home decoding magazines for review and reinforcement of skills.
