Academic achievement is at an all-time high
in Blue Valley. Not only did the district's students excel once again on the Kansas State Assessments, but the district and each one of its schools have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act. This is the seventh year in a row Blue Valley has made AYP. On the reading assessment, 97.2 percent of Blue Valley students scored proficient or higher and 96.4 percent scored proficient or higher on the math assessment. In reading, 54.1 percent of students scored in the exemplary category. In math, 51.6 percent of students scored in exemplary.
Blue Valley students once again performed extremely well on the ACT test. The 2009 graduates posted the highest ACT composite score of Kansas City metropolitan area school districts. The graduates registered an average ACT composite score of 24.3. The Kansas composite score average is 21.9 and the national average is 21.1. The 2009 Blue Valley graduates continue to far exceed state and national averages on the SAT test. Students scored on average 1757 on the test that measures math, verbal and writing skills. In Kansas, the average is 1734 and nationwide the average is 1509, out of a possible 2400.
It doesn't take long to realize that the efforts of our students and the dedication of our staff, aligned with the goals of the strategic plan, are paying off. The success of individual students is a testament to the dedication of staff to help each child achieve success.
